Lens Accessories

The wonderful world of lens accessories – it's just a bit like being a kid in a candy store. Any kind of lens accessories you could possibly want, you can find on the Internet and at your local camera store. If you're a real photography hound, you'll likely spend hours browsing. After all, it IS addicting isn't it?

Without putting too fine a point on it, lens accessories run the gamut from the must-have to make my business a success to the sure would like to have if I could afford it. But, for the most part, the lens accessories you really need, will be the ones you'll focus on first.

Depending on what type of camera you have, film or digital, you can find lens accessories for both – most seem to be interchangeable by the way. Which is definitely a bonus for your pocketbook. Look for zoom lenses, macro and micro lenses, shift tilt lenses, just plain shift lenses, and telephoto lenses.

Don't forget the lens hoods, caps and cases. The rangefinder lenses, and optical cleaning supplies. Having a camera is a bit like having a horse, there are so many other things you need to get to keep the horse working (just as there are so many things you can get for your camera to keep it working.)

Step up rings, step down rings, brackets, mounts, adapters, and filters – best hope you have a list of what you need to get before you buy anything. It's also always a good practice to read up on any item you want to get for your camera.

The best place for checking out lens accessories is camera forums that have like-minded users in them. They can give you their honest opinions on various lens accessories, and won't hold back. They don't have anything to lose or gain by making recommendations, so you can be fairly certain that while surfing camera forums you'll get the real low down on what's what with lens accessories.

Psssst! Here's the real list of no nonsense, down to earth practical items you really need: extra batteries, supplemental battery/vertical grip, filters, lens hoods, AC adapters, cable releases and remote triggers, and Wi-Fi transmitter. And the rest of what you need is up to you, depending on the job you are shooting. All the above items are good to go for just about anyone in any line of work – news, sports, documentary, wildlife, magazine, studio, commercial, fine arts and events.
