Slide Projectors

In the 1950s and 1960s home and professional photographers use slide projectors to show photography on large screens in front of friends and family. Some businesses once used a slide projector for business photo presentations too.

While home printers, computers, digital cameras and home theater projectors have caused a decline in slide projectors, artists and photographers still use the transparent slides for business purposes. Many artist and photography contest judges refuse to accept submissions on anything other than a transparent slide for a 35mm slide projector.

Today's 35 mm slide projectors come in a variety of styles and sizes. Many 35mm slide projectors are lightweight (before adding the slides).

In the eBay guide section, one seller offers his opinion on how to purchase or update a Kodak Carousel slide projector. This type of Kodak slide projector sets the transparent slides in slots that create a circular pattern. The carousel moves around to remove, or auto selections. Many photographers owned a carousel slide projectors as they were among the most popular in the 1970s. Kodak slide projectors with a carousel design can advance one slide at a time, skip a few slides, or move in reverse order. Kodak slide projector bulbs are among the easiest projector bulbs to find. These are normally sold near Kodak projectors.

The Vivitar Company brings out better photography options and designs year after year. A slide projector, the Vivitar 5000 AF, sells for a little more than two hundred dollars. It incorporates a carousel design tilted to the side rather than flat. Automatic focusing, remote control with forward and reversible controls, a slide previewer and a low voltage quartz lamp make this an easy to use slide projector. Its motor runs quiet and stays cool.

Slide projector lamps cost eight dollars and up depending on the brand and style. Find projector lamp bulbs for any projector make and model through an online search engine, like Google. Also search online auction sites.

Camera Books sells projector manuals online including some made for an older model Gaf slide projector. Buy used slide projectors online through photography shops, used electronic stores and online auctions. Offline, visit used electronic shops and antique stores for items like a Compco Triad stereo slide projector designed by Herald Lutes. This heavy cast metal design was introduced in the 1950s and came with 500 watt slide projection bulbs. A good find for antique collectors.
