Floodlights

Photographers use floodlights when they need even illumination throughout a large area. A floodlight relies on reflectors to give the appearance of soft sunlight. It produces a broad beam. The beam provides a strong and continuous light through an artificial source.

Portrait photographers use a floodlight as their main lighting source, or as a diffused fill light. A floodlight produces a softened effect required in portraits.

Where a photographer places a floodlight helps to determine a camera's shutter and film speed, and exposure time. The best way to use a floodlight is to place it a distance from the camera tripod. This allows the light to encompass a wider area while casting dramatic shadows. Usually, one floodlight is sufficient. Two if the area expands beyond the floodlight's range.

An outdoor floodlight provides a bright light for people coming and going during the evening hours. Some line city side walks and road ways. A few outdoor floodlights include a remote and a motion sensor. The light turns on the moment someone enters the sensor range.

Most cameras lack the ability to see in the dark. A floodlight camera works well for those in need of an outdoor camera for photography and security reasons. Security floodlight cameras come in simple systems, like model SVS-1 from Seaview Video Technology. This model is composed of a single 10" height and 9.25" width screw in floodlight bulb with hidden black and white camera video feed. Security floodlight cameras also come in complex systems that include the camera, floodlight and taping, or DVD equipment. Floodlight cameras work great when an intruder steps into the light path. A thief may flee just by noticing the bright light.

Photographers and movie makers use floodlight cameras to get stunning night photos of every day objects. A floodlight diffuser slides over the light to tone down, or soften a subject.

An infrared floodlight (or IR floodlight) uses technology a video camera picks up, but is unseen by human eyes. Infrared floodlights are used for more than security purposes. In photography, an infrared floodlight helps get a clear night time photo to appear taken during daylight hours. Infrared can only pick up a low range of color and highlight objects normally unseen by the naked eye.
